Description Sport has become an extremely important phenomenon since the 2nd half of the 20th century at least. It is relevant to the lives of increasingly wide sections of the population and increasing emphasis is being placed on its economic, cultural, social and health-related, as well as on its educational, leisure and recreational-related, therapeutic and hedonistic dimensions, among other things. Taking part in sport plays a crucial role in todays healthy lifestyle. It is sport in particular that is becoming an important element of modern society and is making an increasing contribution to the preservation and development of social identity on a local, national, regional and even European scale. The social dimensions of sport simultaneously reflect increasingly visible expressions of identity at all levels.
