At Masaryk University's Faculty of Education, Jana Kratochvílová leads the Department of Education. She specializes in the diagnosis of teacher activities in the classroom, student assessment and self-assessment, differentiation of instruction, and teaching strategies that support students' learning processes, such as project-based teaching. She covers the fundamentals of educational diagnostics, pedagogical-psychological diagnostics, student assessment in the classroom, and school pedagogy. She has dedicated her life to teacher education, which she sees as an opportunity to transform and improve the Czech educational system.

Her research focuses on inclusive education, diversity in education, and, in particular, the assessment and self-assessment of student performance. She is currently working on an ethnographic project for the Czech Science Foundation (GA ČR) that explores diversity in pre-service teacher training. From 2020 to 2023, she was the principal investigator for the TAČR project (TL: 05000360) "A Different Kind of Report Card," where she and her team created a new report card format to support formative assessment in practice.
