The project "Acquisition of tacit knowledge by teaching students during their teaching practice" (GA13-20049S) is financed by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic
Project manager: Vlastimil Švec
Implementation team: Jana Krátká, Blanka Pravdová, Radim Šíp, Eva Minaříková, Jan Slavík, Jan Nehyba
The goal of the project is to find out how the basic components of tacit knowledge work - the mental image of an activity and the motivation to act. Furthermore, how the process of acquiring the tacit knowledge of a student teacher affects their subjective concept of teaching, unexpected pedagogical situations and sharing experiences with a practicing teacher.
The project is based on the assumption that tacit knowledge includes two basic components: cognitive (mental image of an activity) and non-cognitive (motivation to act). They develop from the student's subjective theory of teaching and the student teacher acquires them in the course of teaching practice by solving practical situations. Unexpected situations in particular have a motivating effect. The process of acquiring tacit knowledge facilitates the student's self-reflection and the sharing of their experiences with those of the practicing teacher.
Due to its thematic focus, the project belongs to the national and international research stream, which aims to find a new concept of teacher education based on the purposeful connection of theory and practice. It focuses on a neglected area of inquiry – the research of tacit knowledge by student teachers during their teaching practice in schools.
The significance of the project can be seen in the fact that it will introduce the concept of tacit knowledge into the Czech environment, namely in the field of teacher education, it will further contribute to the constitution of the theory of tacit knowledge in teacher education and, last but not least, it will propose a model of the process of acquiring tacit knowledge by teacher students during their pedagogical practice .
Based on the nature of the research questions to which the project will try to find an answer, qualitative research is chosen with methods such as semi-structured interview, unstructured observation, focus group, content analysis of the student's written self-reflections and content analysis of the student's preparation for the lesson.
