Department of technical education and information science (MUNI)
Research strategy:
Department of technical education and information science focus primarily on research into the didactic use of new technologies that are currently coming into practice in schools (VR, robotics, 3D printing, computational thinking...). We aim to collaborate more on applied research with partner primary schools in the context of significant curricular changes (new National Educational framework) in the field of computer science education, which significantly determine the general focus of our applied and basic research.

-
Digital competence - the gateway to development from A to Z (CZ.02.3.68/0.0/0.0/18_067/0012278)
Researcher at MU: doc. RNDr. Petr Sládek, CSc. Faculty / Department MU: Faculty of education Period of solution: 1/2020 — 12/2022Investor/Program: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic / OP Research, Development and Education(OP VVV)Annotation: The implementation of the project will contribute to the innovation of teaching in primary schools by creating new digital educational resources that will be aimed at increasing the digital competences of pupils. The implementation of the project will lead to the development of digital education and computer thinking in primary schools. The innovative digital educational resources created will contribute to increasing pupils' competences in solving tasks, handling information, creating and sharing content, which will increase their future employability.

3D printing and its application in primary and secondary schools (TL03000425)
Researcher at MU: Ing. Zdeněk Hodis, Ph.D. Faculty / Department MU: Faculty of education Period of solution: 6/2020 — 5/2023Investor/Program: Technology Agency ČR / ÉTAAnnotation: The aim of the project is to use the potential of 3D printing to increase the quality of the educational process and furthermore to increase the level of education of teachers and students in this area in order to increase their pedagogical and didactic competences. 3D printing offers a huge pedagogical potential, which is currently not used primarily due to the lack of available quality methodological materials. The intention of the project is to develop a methodology on how to apply 3D printing in schools and how to integrate it effectively into teaching. We want to show the possibilities of the technology in specific selected areas by creating new didactic tools - "from teachers for teachers". We will create high quality generic content on 3D printing technology with a primary focus to support teaching, which will have a guaranteed educational added value.

Supporting the development of computational thinking (CZ.02.3.68/0.0/0.0/16_036/0005322)
Researcher at MU: Ing. Zdeněk Hodis, Ph.D. Faculty / Department MU: Faculty of education Period of solution: 10/2017 — 9/2020Investor/Program: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic / OP Research, Development and Education (OP VVV)Annotation: The project will prepare conceptual materials that will enable the modernisation of curriculum documents in terms of the integration of digital technologies. The aim is to foster the conditions for open education and to contribute to the creation of an educational system that will ensure that every individual, without distinction, is equipped with the competences that will enable them to apply themselves in the information society and to benefit from the offer of open education. The conceptual materials will consistently take into account the needs of common education. -
Community of Practice - a platform for the development of key competences (CZ.02.3.68/0.0/0.0/16_011/0000659)
Researcher at MU: doc. PhDr. Mgr. Hana Svatoňová, Ph.D. Faculty / Department MU: Faculty of education Period of solution: 1/2017 — 12/2019Investor/Program: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic / OP Research, Development and Education (OP VVV)Annotation: The project is aimed at creating cooperation between pedagogical staff at primary and secondary schools and didacticians at universities. During the project implementation two communities will be created (Didactics of science subjects for primary school teachers and Didactics of vocational subjects for secondary school teachers). Across the two communities, topics will be addressed in a modular way with an emphasis on the creation of a collaborative network. The modules will focus on training in pedagogy and psychology, subject didactics and cross-curricular links. -
Standardization of IT literacy at Masaryk University (CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0237)
Researcher at MU: RNDr. Michal Javorník, Ph.D. Faculty / Department MU: Institute of Computer Science Period of solution: 1/2012 — 12/2014Investor/Program: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic / Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness (VK)Annotation: The aim of the project is to innovate and standardize basic IT education across Masaryk University. This education will be divided into a block of IT literacy education, both in the area of standard IT work and in the area of basic professional IT skills that are necessary for students to use IT in their field of study, and a block dealing with issues of information security and protection.
With the rapid development of IT and Internet services, the need for IT literacy is growing. One of the most pressing needs is precisely the ability to exist safely on the Internet and to be able to use IT services without increasing the risk of losing personal information. Students at Masaryk University should be aware of how to behave in the electronic world so that they can take advantage of new opportunities and, on the other hand, not put themselves at personal risk.
The project involves the renowned IT company MICROSOFT s.r.o. In addition, the most acute upgrade of classroom equipment and the stabilization of the IT management model for teaching will take place.
