Jedná se o 12týdenní blended-learningový kurz se zaměřením na psaní odborných textů v angličtině, který se uskuteční v podzimním semestru. Kurz počítá s 12 online setkáními v průběhu celého podzimního semestru (vždy v úterý od 15:00 do 16:30 hod.) a se samostatnou prací v Moodlince mezi setkáními, kdy budou účastníci prohlubovat témata z prezenčních setkání a pracovat na vlastních textech či úkolech vztahujících se k přípravě vlastních textů. 

Účastníci se naučí, jak lépe formulovat své úvahy a seznámí se s rétorickými schématy a základními stylistickými principy angloamerické kultury psaní odborných textů. Vzhledem k tomu, že výuka bude probíhat v angličtině, je požadována min. vstupní úroveň angličtiny B2. Kurz je určen těm doktorandům, kteří budou mít na vstupu do kurzu již rozepsaný odborný text, který má potenciál se dostat do zahraničního žurnálu. 

Vzhledem k tomu, že počet míst je omezený, v případě většího zájmu bude zohledněna perspektiva rozpracovanosti textů jednotlivých uchazečů. Zájemce prosíme, aby se do 20. 6. přihlásili na adrese velickova@ped.muni.cz a spolu s přihláškou dodali i stručný nástin textu, na kterém by chtěli v rámci kurzu pracovat. Pro vybrané účastníky bude kurz bezplatný.

Course Description, Goals, and Outcomes:

This graduate seminar is an introduction to the complex world of academic writing for publication and is designed to give writers in a variety of disciplines including education practical experience in preparing their research for publication. Using Wendy Laura Belcher’s best-selling Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success, the course explains the publication process to students and shares strategies for achieving success in the academic writing arena, including setting up a work schedule, identifying appropriate journals for submission, working with editors, writing query letters, clarifying arguments, making claims for significance, and organizing material. In a supportive environment, participants revise a draft (often a classroom paper, conference paper, or dissertation chapter) into a peer-reviewed article. The goal of this course is to aid participants in taking their papers from classroom quality to journal quality and in overcoming anxiety about academic publishing in the process. The class meets for two hours once a week. Expect to spend 2-4 hours a week on the readings and homework assignments for the class.

Assignments

Writing assignments: You have some writing due every week, which must be submitted to pass the course. There are two key assignments: your abstract; and a draft of your introduction. Due dates are in the Course Schedule.

Oral presentation assignments: You have two oral presentations: one PowerPoint presentation that is an overview of your article and one PowerPoint presentation on the outline of your article.

Reading assignments: You will have an average of 25 to 50 pages of reading per week and will be required to complete the writing workbook’s tasks for that week and bring them to class for discussion. Always bring your writing workbook to class.
