Popis | Benthic macroinvertebrates are generally suitable model organisms for indication of aquatic environment status. Long-term monitoring of taxonomical and functional structure of their assemblages is an objective method for assessment of human impacts on fluvial ecosystems. However, historical data for reliable comparison are extremely scarce. An unusual data set of Ephemeroptera and Plecoptera allows us to evaluate changes in assemblages at 175 locations in the Czech Republic between two time periods, 1955–1960 and 2006–2011. Studied streams were affected particularly by strong organic pollution. However, other impacts, such as channelization, construction of impoundments and acidification, were large-scale in the Czech Republic as well. |
