Popis | Changes in the nature of personal relations and family formations bring the attention to an increase in numbers of one member households. Not only the expansion of that phenomenon in recent years but also the temporal change is significant for the nowadays situation – one person households are more prevalent but also became a more permanent way of life rather than representing time-limited life phase (of e. g. emerging adulthood). The aim of our paper is thus twofold: In the first part we would like to discuss the potential of episodic ethnography in researching home environments. In the second part we will discuss the results of the research based on that method conducted in 2013/2014 among one member households in the Czech Republic. Inspired by and in a critical discussion with the theories of individualization, the special attention will be paid to the importance and appreciation of solitude and relative position of loneliness in the narratives on housing histories. |
