Popis | The aim of this paper is to examine the construction of heroes’ characters in the genre of edifying story. Initially, in order to understand better the basic techniques employed in the genre, I briefly discuss its ancient forerunners. Afterwards, I try to present, very briefly, the basic features of the theoretical distinction between “telling” and “showing”, which I use as the methodological basis for my analysis. Subsequently, building on both previous parts, I try to show the specific features of the construction of a hero in two selected collections of edifying stories: the early form of the genre will be represented by Historia monachorum in Aegypto (late 4th cent.), the middle stage by the stories of Daniel Scetiotes (late 6th cent.). |
