Citace
Popis In 1865 was published maybe the most famous children book of all times, Lewis Carroll’s Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The second installment, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, arrived at 1871. There are four Czech translations of the first book and two of the second and they differ in various ways in comparison with the originals. One of these ways is the total amount of exclamation marks in the text. Why would a translator delete or add exclamation marks on a large scale? Is it connected with his or her particular style or rather dependent on the period when s/he produces the translation? Or is there something totaly different behind this phenomena? In this paper certain features that can lead to discrepancy in the number of exclamation marks will be analyzed one by one, in order to find out which of them is the real cause.
