Popis | Johannes Nucius (1556, Görlitz–1620, Himmelwitz) is nowadays mostly perceived as a music theorist thanks to his well-known treatise Musices Poeticae Sive de Compositione Cantus (1613). Nucius‘ composition work and its dissemination are influenced by his service as an Abbot in Himmelwitz Abbey (since 1591). As a result of the editorial work of Jürgen Kindermann, we have been given the most recent complex overview of sources of Nucius’ music. This valuable publication was printed in 1968, therefore nowadays it is not possible to rely on the information related to sources. Many of them have been newly rediscovered or relocated. The area where the compositions have been preserved until these days is quite large. This paper focuses on the examination of these disseminated prints and manuscripts. The libraries and archives (of Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Berlin, Regensburg, and Nürnberg) have been examined to gather up current comprehensive data about Nucius’ compositions and the paper sets out to follow the routes (and roots) of each source and try to understand the complex background |
