Popis | The conference focuses on presenting and representing animals at exhibitions in various cultural institutions. The analysis of exhibiting strategies and narratives will help us understand how human-animal relations were presented historically and nowadays, what stereotypes about these relationships were reproduced, what new knowledge was produced, and how traditional discourse was shifted in the exhibition space. The conference program focuses mainly on contemporary art, ethnographic museums, and natural history museums, in environmental, zoocentric, and postcolonial critical perspectives. The conference will be held on November 18-19, 2022 at the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” in the conference room at Dobra 72 Street. The conference is organized as part of the project “Non-Anthropocentric Cultural Subjectivity” in the program “The Excellence Initiative – Research University” at the University of Warsaw and by the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” of the University of Warsaw. The conference program includes two keynote lectures: 18.11.2022, 17:00-18:00 Prof. Petra Lange-Berndt: The Infested Museum. The Animal-Human-Complex in Contemporary Art 19.11.2022, 10:00-11:00 Dr. Alan Sioltaich Ross: The preserved animal body between anatomy and visual culture, 1660 – 1840. |
