Popis | African cichlids are parasitized by specific monogeneans of Cichlidogyrus, Scutogyrus, Onchobdella and Enterogyrus genera. The aim of the study was to perform the molecular phylogenetic analyses to investigate the phylogenetic relationships between specific cichlid monogeneans and other representatives of Dactylogyridae. All phylogenetic analyses based on the large subunit of rDNA sequences of monogeneans belonging to the Dactylogyridea indicated polyphyletic origin of the subfamily Ancyrocephalinae and suggested that Enterogyrus and Onchobdella are each monophyletic. Scutogyrus was nested within Cichlidogyrus, which suggests the non-monophyly of Cichlidogyrus. Moreover, the present phylogenetic analyses showed the monophyly of group including Protogyrodactylus, Euryhaliotrema, Ligophorus and specific cichlid monogeneans: endoparasitic Enterogyrus and ectoparasitic Onchobdella, Cichlidogyrus and Scutogyrus. Therefore, we suggest that endoparasitism is probably a derived feature for cichlid monogeneans. |
