Fullerenes are known to form two types of endohedral complexes:
1- Van der Waals complexes with non-interacting molecules, such as xenon (Xe@C60), water (H2O@C60), and other neutral and non-metal endohedral molecules.
2- A diverse group of complexes with endohedral metals and metal clusters, such as U2@C80, Sc3N@C80, Sc2C2@C80, in which metal is positively charged and fullerene is negatively charged.
Fullerenes are known to be electron deficient; therefore, a certain type of endohedral fullerenes have not been known yet: fullerenes in which the cage is positively charged and contains an anion. In this project for the first time we introduced the last missing type of fullerenes with a reverse charge transfer from the cage to the encapsulated molecule.
