Description Exploring clusters and sequences of learning strategies and their orchestration is one of rising methodological questions in the theory of foreign language acquisition. Paper presents design of the proposed research and discusses its conceptual and methodological limits. Based on the premise that strategies do not occur in isolation but in clusters and sequences, we assume that the quality of the orchestration is crucial to the success of learning. Clusters and sequence strategies are examined in typical learning situations associated with the use and acquisition of particular language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). Strategies are derived from direct and indirect (video) observation, think-alouds, and follow-up interviews with students. Success of strategy orchestration is evaluated on the basis of success of solving particular language situation or the task by expert rating assessment. In this respect we also raise the question what types of strategy clusters and sequences are characteristic for successful / unsuccessful task solving, and what other parameters they are related to in terms of the individual. To determine these parameters, we propose to use further research instruments.
