Description | The paper focus on the ways how children, specifically children aged 8-10 and 12-13 years, are projecting their future lifes, how are they presenting them, what are their aspirations, expectations and wishes for the future. It is based on the different sources of qualitative data (drawings, essays, creating timelines etc.), gathered within the wider research project realized at two moravian primary schools. Data shows how children perceive social standards and values relating to different periods of life, and how they perceive different expectations in relation to gender. Children formulate their own life plans and ideas in a series of stages, beginning with the preparátory stage associated with the educational system and the acquisition of competencies, continuing to the phase of finding a stable partnership and building families and ending in the old age, that is described as a life phase marked by the loss of energy, health and competencies. While girls describe their future life plans in terms of an intensive and successful involvement into various life spheres – professional as well as private, boys design their future as a future of single beings realizing their own dreams and hobbies, just sorrounded by their families, but highly individualized. |
