Description Clients of helping professions gain specific experience through their contact with the system of these professions. This experience forms their definitions and representations of the system and the profession as well. This specific experience launches them into a role of proto-experts because their knowledge of the system is more specific than that of other people. The way they look at the system forms their attitudes and shapes the actions and strategies they use to deal with the system. Their definition of the system is based on their specific social position and their role of clients of the system, therefore it is different from the official defnition of the system. Examples presented in the paper are based on findings of author's qualitative research.
