Description | In this chapter the resilience theory in relation to at-risk youth is discussed, focusing on socially disadvantaged Roma pupils. The theory takes into account both risk and protective factors as predictors of behaviour disorders. The socially disadvantaged environment as a life space accumulates risk factors, thus increasing the chance of behaviour disorder development. On the other hand, school environment could offer individuals a life space with different factors of resilience and thus reduce their chance of developing behaviour disorders. We consider knowledge of risk and protective factors as a basis of prevention and intervention in at-risk youth. |
