Description “Post-socialist city” is one of the concepts that works perfectly within the “double hermeneutics” of social sciences, becoming not only concepts of analysis, but being (re-)introduced into the common-sense categories having an impact on social life. In my presentation, I will focus on the perception of changing urban environments by a particular population segment – inhabitants of inner cities of Prague, Brno and Ostrava older than 65 years – focusing particularly on their inside look at the “socialist” as well as “post-socialist” city histories. In their narratives initiated within 37 in-depth interviews, the changing (or constant) structures, politics and cultures of cities appear as an important part of the individual biographies. How is the “post-socialist condition” perceived by those, for whom represents just one part of the life stories? How do they frame their contemporary experiences in relation to socialist/post-socialist categories?
