Description Based on the needs of European mobility and integration, the subject of multilingualism in recent years has become a buzzword and trend in the language policy debate as well as in research. The article focuses on the one hand on the question of how European ideas are implemented in the provisions of the national language policy and the other with the real language situation in the schools as well as in foreign language teaching. The implementation of the European idea of multilingualism is critically questioned by recent research results are evaluated from the Czech Republic.
