Description During work on the monograph about Czech exile composer Jan Novak (1921-1984), it is necessary to reconsider the basic question of the structure and function of the monograph at the beginning of the 21st century. The problem is apparently strongest when considering the structure and forms of distribution of the contents of the monograph when given the new, omnipresent media. It is not possible to satisfy today's reader with one-dimensional diachronic narration, which has difficulties absorbing problematic lines going across the production of a concrete composer or a specialised angle of research. For descriptions of models of recently published monographs, we have used a metaphor derived from the structuring of space in abstract visual art, concretely, Kandinsky's publication Point and Line to Plane. As shown, the majority of today's monographs put up with a zero-or one-dimensional structural model. In the time of standardized hypertextual structure, of course these methods of coordination of information cannot be considered an adequate intellectual challenge. Architecture of modern monographs should respect not only competencies of the author, but above all, the requirements of the contents themselves and of the reader.
