Citation
Description The paper analyzes the concept of human dignity as a basic concept of the constitutional order of the Czech republic and, basically, of the whole tradition of human rights. It brings to the fore the fact that one of the main problems of the Czech constitutional and, more broadly, public discourse is the lack of the clarification of the concepts like human dignity which we simplistically conceive as self-evident. Although the rival versions of moral enquiry sometimes disagree on the specifications of these concepts when dealing the concrete cases, the breadth of the basic agreement on the common core of human rights should not be underestimated. However, what is obvious is that we need deeper discussion about the purposes and the goods which should be protected in the constitutional democracy.
