Description This monograph deals with children´s ideas and beliefs about cancer and a possibility of cancer education in the primary schoolbase environment. The study identifies and describes the absolutely unique children´s ideas about cancer together with their intepretation in education process. It focuses on the most important risk factors of healthy lifestyles; unhealthy diet, smoking, physical inactivity and its prevention. It also provides an overview of foreign cancer preventive programs and highlights implementation of cancer educatuion into school curriculum. The study found out, that children perceive cancer as a serious, often incurable, fatal disease. They associated it very often with death, serious threats and infections as well as a disease infecting multiple organs, most frequently the lungs. Smoking was mentioned far the most frequent cause of cancer followed by alcohol, drugs, environmental factors and unhealthy food. Changes in the cognitive dimension of post-intervention concept of cancer were demonstrated.
