Description Psychologists have long associated self-harm exclusively with personality disorders, autism, mental retardation, or suicidal attemps. \more recently, however, research in other countries (e.g. Janis and Nock, 2008) indicated that self-harm is not an equivalent of any of these disorders although it might occur as one of the symptoms. Our study, focusing on the perception of the self-harm phenomenon by children attending later grades of primary school, builds on our preliminary study, exploring some of the key associations in this domain, especially differences in perception of this phenomenon by children who have no experience with self-harm, those who only have "experimental" experience, and those who have been harming themselves repeatedly and for a long period of time. The age group was chosen on the basic previous research abroad (kvermo and Rosenvige, 2009, Lieberman, 2004), which identified the period of early adolescence as the onset point of progressive incidence of this negative phenomenon in young people.
