Description How can the medium of the novel represent social criticism? This talk aims to present a portrayal of French society as presented by French crime and roman noir after 1968. It is a socially engaged genre reflecting contemporary issues with themes of actual events which took place in France during the second half of the 20th century. Therefore this talk concentrates on novels which opened polemics on the controversial moments of French recent history such as, for example, the Algerian war, M. Papone's trial etc.
