Description | In the paper we study and compare exonyms Bohemia, Poland, Luxembourg which appear as the royal and noble titles in 93 contracts of John of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia and Poland, Count of Luxembourg, which arose during his reign from 1310 to 1346. Most contracts are written in French, some in Latin and German. The exonyms are transcribed in many ways, suggesting that the contracts were wr itten by different scribes (10 varieties of Boheme, 22 varieties of Pologne, 31 varieties of Luxembourg). The orthography of exonyms Poland and Luxembourg was not unified at that time. But the exonym Bohemia became a fixed form Boeme after 1327. The contracts are a valuable document for understanding of the evolution of the French language in the 1st half of the XIVth century. |
