Description The aim of this study was to investigate six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IL-6, interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) and MMP-9 genes in patients with RAS and healthy controls in the Czech Caucasian population. Although, in contrast to previous studies, no significant associations between IL-6 and IL-6R gene variants and RAS were found, our pilot results indicated that MMP-9 gene variability could affect the risk of developing recurrent aphthous stomatitis in the Czech Caucasian population.
