Description The need of such a dictionary resulted from a long-term studies of Slavic toponymy, work on The Dictionary of the Toponyms in Moravia in Silesia (together with L. Hosák), and creating the conception of the Slavic Onomastic Atlas. In the contemporary onomastics, the topolexem and topoetymon terms are not yet common. The former stands for lexems that form the basis of toponyms, e.g. javor (= maple) in the toponym Javorník, the latter means the etymological basis (root) of topolexems: the Old-Slavic avor (= maple) stands in relation to German Ahorn (= maple). And, there is a traditional interest in etymons. The Dictionary would serve for inter-Slavic comparative studies, investigations of compliances and differences, it would enable typology and classification, research of the relation towards appellatives, etc. All this is a task for an International team. Both the initial materials taken from the individual Slavic languages and the suggested Dictionary must be processed in an electronic form.
