Description | The author of the chapter is convinced that the history of science is not limited to a history of great inventions but also a history of encounters of scholars and also their thoughts. Therefore, the main aim of the study is to introduce one of these encounters, the one of Jan Mukařovský and Mikuláš Bakoš. The author of the study starts with a detailed analysis of the influence which Jan Mukařovský’s teaching in Bratislava from 1931 to 1937 had on Slovak science and culture and continues with a description of Mukařovský’s particular relationship with Mikuláš Bakoš, the Slovak literary scholar and translator. The critical comparison of their theoretical and methodological conceptions reveals their mutual similarities and also shows the rational background of the conceptions and their wholesome attitudes. |
