Description The thesis discusses the Czech Baroque homilies from the first half of the 18th century – concretely proceedings of sermons Conchylium Marianum (1736) and Kurtz verfaste Nachricht (1747). First of all, the thesis summarizes the cultural-historical context of the Baroque period in the Czech lands, then the elements of homilies as one of the most extensive genre of Baroque literature are defined – the thesis gives a few views on the definition of the preaching literature, furthermore the structure of homilies is described as well as the artistic means used in them. Before the analysis of homilies, the thesis deals with Baroque Marian devotion and with Marian festivities in Brno, which took place in 1736 and during the occasion the homilies were delivered – they are contained in the Conchylium Marianum. The thesis subsequently also discusses Swedish siege of Brno in 1645 – on the occasion of the centenary of this important historical event were delivered homilies, which are included in the Kurtz verfaste Nachricht. The second part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of homilies, the main subject is effigy of Virgin Mary and Marian cult.
