| Description | The lecture aims to show on the example of marble sarcophagi of Ravenna how knowledge of materiality of the objects and of the process of production can explain their appearance when traditional methods of art history such as iconographic and formal analysis might fail. Its real aim is to open a discussion on importance of knowledge of artistic exchanges, practical aspects of production and of interdisciplinary collaboration in the study of medieval art in general. |
