| Description | The lecture at the University of Vienna on 18 May 2017 focused on the origins and development of travel documents in the Austrian monarchy. The lecturer offered a thesis on the hierarchy of state interests when establishing documents for travellers. This hierarchy did not correspond to the estates’ society, and instead prioritized poorer people whose travelling provided them with a livelihood or helped to improve their professional qualifications. |
