Description | A unified “group” is formed particularly by several chateaux in Moravia whose courtyard colonnades with semicircular arcades recall fifteenth-century Florentine palaces. Here the arcade is symbolically defined as a “lofty loggia” or as a dramatic locus of courtly self-presentation. This is due to the fact that the courtyard area was the site where distinguished visitors received their welcome and where courtly ceremonies took place, giving the visitors a glance of the owner's refinement and power. The example of the House of Žerotin's Rosice Chateau indicates that the coded message filled with emblematic references was designed with educated aristocratic audience in mind. |
