Description | Developing intercultural communicative competence represents one of the priorities of the current foreign-language policy. Even though the ambition to attain this aim in foreign-language teaching and learning is promoted already at primary schools, checking the actual development of intercultural communicative competence still remains a challenge to theory, practice and research. The presented article introduces a system of representative categories of intercultural communicative competence which was designed as a research tool in action research dealing with intercultural communicative competence development in writing in English in the ninth grade of the lower secondary school. With respect to the complexity of the construct of intercultural communicative competence, this system of categories was designed so that it might be used deductively when analysing writing. Consequent induction of partial subcategories and their indicators enabled further elaboration of the tool. The attention of the article is hence paid to the description and content grasp of the designed system of categories and possible ways in which it might be used in similar research. |
