Description | The Chapter deals with what connected the revolutions in the individual lands in 1848 and what separated them. Although the revolution eventually failed, its defeat did not prevent major modernization changes or a significant shift in the national emantipation movements, especially the Germans, Italians, and Hungarians. But not even in the Habsburgmonarchy was there a possible return to before 1848; it was not allowed both by the efforts of a new post-revolutionary regime to implement administrative, educational and economic reforms that should lead to a controlled modernization of the state and the internal changes which occurred within the society in the direction of its civic emancipation and the abolition of serfdom during the revolutionery year. |
