Description This paper aims to give an account of the work of the Piarist Order in South Moravia in the 19th century. Attention is devoted principally to education which was (and remains) the fundamental area of interest to the Piarist Order. The Piarists operated in Mikulov, Strážnice, Hustopeče and Kyjov in South Moravia in the 19th century. They also worked for a certain time at the Episcopal Philosophical Institute in Brno. This paper shows the diversity of the activities of the order in the first half of the 19th century and its subsequent decline in the second half of the century. The causes of this decline are summarised.
