| Description | The study is focused on picture in which famous Viennese artist Heinrich Friedrich Füger (1751–1818) depicted master sculptor of ancient Greece Phidais working on monumental statue of Zeus. Picture (nowadays in State castle Židlochovice), inspired by the Homer's verses and also by contemporary novel Aristipp by Christoph Martin Wieland was created in 1801 for a passionate collector and patron of art Prince Albert Casimir of Saxony, Duke of Teschen. The theme, less frequent in the visual arts, was often reflect in art theory from late antiquity (Plótínos) over renaissance (Leon Battista Alberti) until neoclassicism (Gotthold Ephraim Lessing) in context with the examination of the role of imagination in artistic creation. |
