Description This article is a study of the ideas of A. Tovar (1911-1985) and F. Rodríguez Adrados (born 1922) on ancient democracy, focusing on their main works, as well as in other minor works, written during Francoism (1939-1975). It also explores their intellectual biographies. It is a historiographical study on the work of two of the most important Spanish philologists of the 20th century. At the end of the article, the analysis is enhanced with brief reflections on Ober (2015) and Hansen, pointing out in the conclusions, first, the constant tendencies of the field of history and historical work, and secondly, the importance of reflective reason for their control.
