Description | The second of lectures on architect Hildebrandt shows his effort to find his place in the imperial court. In 1720, although the emperor was elevated to a noble state, but his efforts to assert himself in the imperial orders encountered the constant competition of the Imperial Supreme Court builder Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and then his son. His big project for Hofburg was not realized. His cooperation, especially with the Vice-Chancellor of the Reich, Count Friedrich Carl von Schönborn, enabled him to intervene in architectural history outside the Habsburg monarchy. And even when he was left with individual aristocratic clients and he had to accept smaller orders, he achieved a small scale influence on the broader middle-class and rural culture in Central Europe. |
