| Description | Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen (1771–1847) was one of the most important building patrons in the Habsburg Monarchy in the first half of the 19th century. He inherited a large amount of property from his uncle in 1822, subsequently modernized his residences, and built a new summer residence. Reconstructing the archduke's residency network and its workings throughout the year is an important aspect of the research into the archduke's building activity. The central part of this research is the archduke’s palace in Vienna, which extends to the Habsburg imperial palace of Hofburg, improving its reputation. Josef Kornhäusel, the court architect of Archduke Charles, modernized the interiors of the palace. For his wife, the Archduke built the large modern palace of Weilburg in the popular spa city of Baden, near Vienna. |
