Description | Using Telč and Slavonice as examples, the dissertation deals with a number aspects of art production in seigniorial towns at the beginning of the Early Modern Age, focusing especially on subject burghers living in these towns, who were ordering (and sometimes also creating) various works of art. It is particularly the issue of “burghers ordering works of art”, which points out that it is not possible to use one umbrella term for all activities related to creating works of art in the urban environment, but also the great diversity of the orders analyzed in the dissertation which both suggest that subject burghers as a social group, albeit often neglected, are an important part of art history research. |
