Description A group of students led by doc. As part of her professional work, Žákovské finds out the prevalence of ticks in three localities in Brno and its surroundings. They detected six different pathogens in ticks by molecular biological methods. Ticks were most positive for Borrelia (Borrelia burgdorferi s.l., less for Anaplasma phagocytophyllum, Babesia spp., Coxiella burnetii, Rickettsi spp. Surprisingly, the presence of DNA and Toxoplasma gondii). The positivity can vary during the year, so ticks are collected continuously throughout the year. The high positivity of ticks may be reflected in the increased number of patients for borreliosis. They can occur in other diseases for which, however, blood tests are not performed.
