Description | With a growing far-right and far-left populism in the central Europe arrives question, which factors increase popularity of these parties. Our aim, based on study of two rural regions with high support of extremist parties, is to find out common characteristics of these areas. As study areas we chose Bruntál district in the Czech Republic and Turčianske Teplice district in Slovakia. Both of them are distinctly rural peripheral places and after the Second World War have occurred to population exchange. Our research output consists of development analysis of socioeconomic factors and development and support of far-right and far-left parties. Also, simultaneously were made interviews with residents for better understanding of local context. The study came to a conclusion that both districts used to be prosperous areas during socialism, but after 1989 when began democratization of system has occurred to decline under the influence of restructuring. In the 90´s of the 20th century were both far-right and far-left parties same popular because of protest against then main campaign priorities of those parties. At the beginning of 21st century was more popular far-left party, because citizens were interested in employment and social advantages. However, because of growing fear of migration are coming forward far-right parties in this time. Our research shows that the important factors, which increase support of those parties, are: Historical context Decrease standard of living And actual questions invoking worries |
