Description The paper focuses on the development of the language from Praindoeuropean through Praslavic to the split of the Slavic languages into Southern, Western and Eastern groups. It focuses primarily on the reconstruction of the Slavic pralanguage and the systematic comparison of the individual Slavic languages with each other. The basic phonological phenomena are presented. The results, the functionality of which has been tested by many years of research, are used to further the understanding of Czech and its dialects. The systematic comparison of developmental changes in different Slavic languages helps to improve the quality of Czech language teaching, both for native speakers and for students with different mother tongues. The presented summaries will thus help in a new way to further the knowledge and understanding of Slavic languages and their development, and thus to understand the structure of the contemporary Czech language.
