Description Archaeological excavations of two sites in the cadastral territory of the town of Černá Hora in Blansko District (sites U Ze¬leného kříže/Nad městečkem and Špitálka) in the 1970s and 1980s have yielded pottery assemblages, which demon¬strate a transformation of traditional early medieval production and the origins of typical high medieval ceramic ware. The assemblages come from sunken features, some of which are cellars of wood-and-earth houses. They can be primarily dated to the 2nd half of the 13th century. Špitálka maybe survived until the beginning of the 14th century. The decline of settlements is associated with formation of a town under the eponymous castle. The assemblages exhibit a significant proportion of graphite-tempered pottery. The pottery from Špitálka comprises a larger amount of hard-fired sandy pottery, which began to predominate in the region during the 14th century. A low proportion is represented by pottery with addi¬tion of mica, which is considered an import maybe from the Brno region. Apart from pots, the spectrum of vessels also contains storage pots, lids, jugs, bowls and flagons, all of them fragmented. The traces of forming techniques indicate a transition to wheel throwing. The analysed pottery exhibits common traits with other collections of the transitional zone between the South Moravian and North Moravian production and distribution spheres.
