Description | In France, Noir fiction is acknowledged as a politically and socially engaged literary genre. Today it seems this genre is a little lost in the hybrid reality of the first decade of the 21st century. While the French production appears to stick to the eternal return to the dialectic conflict between the progressive left and malevolent right (which is always described as corrupt), it seems that in the Czech Republic the theme of political corruption and its impact on society is not so omnipresent. However, are these truly different reactions to this social phenomenon? This article examine two contemporary novels – Entre Fauves by Colin Niel and Pět mrtvých psů by Michal Sýkora. It is entirely possible it might bring more questions than answers, especially when comparison to the very interesting Slovak literature, which deals with topical events, is brought to the equation. |
