Description The paper describes the position of civic education in the current government document for education Strategy of Education Policy 2030+, which outlines the development of Czech education in the next ten years. In this context, it draws attention to some of its problematic points, including the tendency towards excessive content reductions associated with knowledge lag. These content reductions can jeopardize the desirable development of key skills, such as the required critical thinking, to lead to the formation of a responsible citizen involved in life in a democratic society. As a possible way, taking into account the mentioned risks, it offers a competency model for responsible citizenship, which is based on the Austrian field competence model. This model, which is based on relevant field knowledge, could suitably complement the existing system based on the development of key competencies.
