Citation
Description The intensity of Russian-Czech linguistic contacts has changed in different periods of history according to the actual needs and interests of both nations. The result of these contacts was, of course, the borrowing of words and word-formation, semantic and syntactic calquing. The so-called russicisms, i.e. words of Russian origin that were incorporated into Czech, deserve attention. Some of these russicisms have been fully adapted, others are still felt as foreign. This article deals with a brief history of Russian-Czech language contacts and maps the occurrence of russicisms in Czech. It also includes a frequency analysis of selected russicisms between 1989 and 2018 based on data from the CNK.
