Description | In the talk, the relationship between music and language on the semantic level in the perception of songs has been addressed. Building on a multidisciplinary theoretical footing, especially pragmatic, musicological and psycholinguistic, songs have been argued to represent a specific kind of communication. While listening, the perceiver actively decodes meaningful cues contained in lyrics and musical accompaniment which have to be combined and also integrated with perceivers own cognitive schemas. In such cases the participatory nature of meaning-making stands out. |
