Description | Harry Mulisch's magnum opus, The Discovery of Heaven, was not published in Czech until 2010, eighteen years after the original was published. The Czech translation, entitled Objevení nebe, was published by the renowned Odeon publishing house in Prague, which commissioned the eminent Czech translator Veronika ter Harmsel Havlíková. The Czech release did not come like a bolt from the blue, but was the result of a long process. Objevení nebe is Mulisch's fifth and last book to be published in Czech. The first Czech translation of Mulisch appeared in 1986, translated by the “grande dame” of Dutch Studies in the Czech Republic Olga Krijtová. Her former student, Veronika ter Harmsel Havlíková, gradually took over the translation relay after her. |
