| Description | Czech, like all living languages, is constantly evolving, changing and adapting to the needs of its users. As a result of cultural, economic or technological development and changes in society, some words in our vocabulary become obsolete and gradually disappear or change their semantic meaning. These changes and shifts also occur in the case of words adopted from foreign languages, including the so-called russicisms that have penetrated into the Czech language during the long history of Czech-Russian contacts. The paper is devoted to the analysis of changes in the frequency of occurrence of selected russicisms and the way they are used in Czech after 1989. The analysis is based on the author's own research on russicisms and is based on data from the Czech National Corpus, which allows easy searching across different periods and types of texts and thus helps us to get a fairly good picture of the representation and usage of russicisms in the contemporary Czech language. |
